where we've come from...
During its steady growth over the approximately past 120 years, Woolsey Baptist Church has undergone two name changes. It was first named Harmony Grove Missionary Baptist Church when it was constituted on August 26, 1888 with 23 charter members in a small country store at Woolsey, Georgia. The first pastor was Dr. I.G. Woolsey, a medical doctor who was also a farmer and landowner. During his eight years as pastor, a church building was constructed and dedicated to the Lord God in March 1889.
The name was then changed to Woolsey Baptist Church on October 2, 1904. Between the first pastor, Dr. I.G. Woolsey, and the current Pastor Chuck Chambers, who began his ministry here on September 8, 1987, over thirty godly men have occupied the pulpit. The church underwent several remodeling programs over the years to accommodate its expanding growth.
In May of 1996, Woolsey Baptist Church relocated to our present location with the construction of phase one, a new all purpose building. In April 2000, an additional twenty seven acres and a house were purchased adjacent to the present property. Phase Two, consisting of an educational wing, was completed in 2002. The McLean Building, houses our church offices, activities room/class room area, resource room, and seven classrooms. Phase Three, planned for the near future, will consist of a new worship center. God has surely blessed this church over the years in so many ways, the greatest blessing being those that have come to faith in Jesus Christ. We believe our greatest days are yet ahead!
